The 40's
English isn't one of the most spoken languages just because it's easy to use. It's used because it has history:
-Measure units and other technical words are originally from England.
-And, in the XX century, English replaced French as a diplomatic and cultural language. The I and II World War were the most helpful events to make this happen.
In 1940, the Americans join the Allies in the II World War, beginning their destiny to become on of the two powerful nations in the world. Their race to see who gets Berlin faster, D-day and their nuclear strikes to the Nagasaki and Hiroshima during the Pacific war highlighted the USA. But it's important to remember that before the war, there were already products that represented the culture of America (like Coca-cola) and one of the biggest and common dreams of the average European citizen was to migrate to America. It will be referred if someone in our group makes a post of the 20's.
After the war the American had to financially help Europe, due to its destruction and economical crisis. It was dealt that the Americans could take a part of Berlin and Germany, also an advantage to spread English. Plus, economic help from the USA, the foundation of the UN, and their industrial policies in Japan helped them to introduce their culture, industry and truly American products and ways of life into several continents.
