English

English

English is a worldwide language that is spoken all around the world.

English is spoken in 53 countries, some like Great Britain, U.S.A, Canada, Australia, Ireland and South Africa. It is also used in organizations like The United Nations, NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), and the European Union, so I think that we can say that nowadays it is the “official language of diplomacy”. It is also used between troops that are deployed in foreign countries, in air traffic control, in the internet, in scientific publications and in almost every data that is stored in a  computer.

It was created in the south of Great Britain during the medieval age, and it had the
influence of the Germanic, the Nordic and the French languages.
English had three periods the archaic (450 d.c to the end of the XI century), the medieval (XII to the XV century) and the modern (since 1475) the exchange between the medieval English and the modern English was marked by a strong phonetic evolution in the vowels.

The language has 375 millions native speakers and one thousand million speakers as a second language.

The countries that have the highest numbers of native speakers are:
United States of America (215 million), the United kingdom (61 million), Canada (18.2 million), Australia (15.5 million), Nigeria (4 million), Ireland (3.8 million), South Africa (3.7 million), New Zealand (3.6 million) according to the 2006 census.

So nowadays English should be a basic language that we should learn since we are children because our knowledge of English is one of the keys for our future.
