William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born in 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon , England and he’s considered the best writer of the English language. His books are extremely popular and they were translated into many languages.
He got married at the age of 18 and had three children: two girls and a boy, who died when he was eleven years old. Initially Shakespeare worked at The Globe Theatre, probably as one of the Queen’s Men.
Shakespeare wrote most of his novels between 1589 and 1613. At the beginning, he wrote comedies (like Merchant of Venice) and histories (such as King John) and later he wrote tragedies that are admired nowadays: MacBeth, Hamlet, etc. He wrote 38 plays, 154 sonets, two long narrative poems and other poems.
Shakespeare influenced literature, music and art. Many novels of famous writers were inspired in Shakespeare’s romances. When he was alive, English was very different and his use of language helped shape modern English. Some expressions that are used currently, like “with bated breath” and “a foregone conclusion” were used in Shakespeare’s novels.
